Irene Ranzato
Irene Ranzato nasce a Roma, il 28/8/1965.
Irene Ranzato, PhD in Translation Studies (Imperial College London), è “professore associato” di Lingua e Traduzione Inglese (L-LIN/12) presso la Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia dell’Università Sapienza di Roma, Dipartimento di Stuidi Europei, Americani e Interculturali. I suoi interessi si rivolgono alla traduzione audiovisiva e alla traduzione intersemiotica, alle varianti dialettali e sociali dell’inglese e all’intersezione tra lingua e ideologie nell’ambito dei dialoghi di finzione.
Insegna lingua e traduzione inglese alla Sapienza, per il triennio e per la magistrale, prima come docente a contratto e poi come “professore associato”, dal 2001.
Insegna traduzione audiovisiva al Master di II livello in Traduzione Specializzata della Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia dell’Università Sapienza di Roma e al Master di I livello in Traduzione e Adattamento delle Opere Audiovisive dell’Università Unint di Roma.
Ha partecipato a convegni e conferenze internazionali, intervenendo sui temi che sono oggetto della sua ricerca.
E’ co-fondatrice del Centro interuniversitario di ricerca Tradac-Traduzione audiovisiva e accessibilità.
E’ membro dell’AIA (Associazione Italiana di Anglistica); di EST – European Society for Translation Studies; e di ESIST – European Association for Studies in Screen Translation.
Dirige la collana Estuary: Le varianti regionali e sociali nel mondo (Bulzoni).
E’ membro del consiglio direttivo della rivista del Dipartimento di Studi Europei Americani e Interculturali (Sapienza): Status Quaestionis.
E’ traduttrice e ha lavorato nell’ambito della traduzione per il cinema, per società di produzione, distribuzione e doppiaggio, italiane ed estere, seguendo la preparazione della versione italiana di film girati in lingue straniere (inglese, francese, spagnolo, portoghese).
Ha tradotto film di rilievo internazionale (con menzione nei titoli) e le sue traduzioni di saggistica (storia, psicoanalisi, medicina, filosofia, politica, cinema) sono state pubblicate da alcune delle principali case editrici e riviste di settore italiane.
Tra le sue pubblicazioni più recenti, le monografie: Translating Culture Specific References on Television: The Case of Dubbing (Routledge 2016) e Queen’s English?: Gli accenti dell’Inghilterra (Bulzoni 2017); e la cura, insieme a S. Zanotti, del volume Linguistic and Cultural Representation in Audiovisual Translation (Routledge 2018).
PUBBLICAZIONI
Irene Ranzato is associate professor of English Language and Translation at Rome Sapienza University. She holds a PhD in Translation Studies from Imperial College London. She is Honorary Research Associate at UCL (University College London). She is the deputy editor of the Sapienza journal Status Quaestionis and the deputy coordinator of the Doctorate in English Literatures, Language and Translation at Sapienza University. Her research lies at the intersection of linguistic and cultural issues and focuses on the sociolinguistic analysis of film and television dialogue, with a keen interest in the varieties of British English. Among her most recent publications are the books: Translating Culture Specific References on Television – The Case of Dubbing (Routledge 2016), Queen’s English?: Gli accenti dell’Inghilterra (Bulzoni 2017); the co-edited collections: Mediating Lingua-cultural Scenarios in Audiovisual Translation (Cultus 2018); Audiovisual Translation: Intersections (Perspectives 2019), Reassessing Dubbing: Historical Approaches and Current Trends (Benjamins 2019), The Dialects of British English in Fictional Texts (Routledge 2021); as well as articles and chapters in Perspectives (2019), Multilingua (2019), The Routledge Handbook of Translation, Feminism and Gender (2020); The Palgrave Handbook of Audiovisual Translation and Media Accessibility (2020), among others. Before starting her academic career, she worked for a film production company specialised in art films and as a freelance translator. She is also the president of a cultural association, AOC F58, which runs a busy, no-profit contemporary art gallery in Rome.
She is the co-founder of the Tradac research group on audiovisual translation and accessibility and a member of the AIA (Associazione Italian Anglistica) board.
